When Mr. Swinky first told me that the ‘next big thing’ in the food world was the Whoopie Pie it got me thinking about food and fashion. When did food become fashionable and fashion become food-y?

The blondie has long been the sister, hiding in the shadows, of the infamous brownie! Mr Swinky, however, has given his traditional recipe a bit of a twist in time for Easter and (clearly mad on a sugar high) has decided to share it amongst some of his closest Facebook friends with plenty of time to practice before the big day! Happy baking everyone…

Working at Swinky’s definitely has its perks, the most obvious of which being all the tasty treats I get to sample before they hit our shelves. One evening after work, Mr Swinky revealed the latest idea for summer- our delicious homemade ice cream ready to take away and have at home.

Just over a year ago, I was sleepily making my way up Park Street for an early morning lecture (and when I say early, unfortunately I mean midday) when I noticed something different. The local goth shop, ‘Shrinking Violet’, was completely bare save the black and white checkerboard flooring. Confused, I continued my long trek up the hill. After my lecture I passed the shop again to find the formerly empty shop to be filled with people busily painting the store in bright pop-colours.

Ah, Alice in Wonderland. A land of magical mystery and childhood adventure has long been an instigation of imagery for our customers when it comes to ‘No.20’. Well, here in Swinkyland, we have taken it one step further this season using the adorable tale of Alice to inspire our window display and events this Easter!

We are considering stocking ‘The Original Gourmet Jelly Belly Bean’ from September… The proper ones imported from the USA. What do people think? Shall we get a selection of loose beans such as Watermelon, Grape Jelly, Coconut, Tutti-Frutti? And/Or little pocket packs of jelly belly beans, small tins and tubes?? If three is a crowd then four is a party… We add a hint of Irish Stout to our signature chocolate cake, then smother it with a vanilla frosting to resemble that glorious drink from the Emerald Isle.

Come and enjoy our ‘boozy’ new creation – Swinky’s Scrumbles! Rather than throw away the left over cake, we break it into crumbs, add some liquor, melted chocolate, spices, essence of vanilla and roll it all into little morsels to sit alongside your coffee. Waste not, want not…

It may be 11 days until the film launches, however it is only 6 DAYS until we launch our two new cupcakes in honour of the film…
